biography

Robert Zimmerman is establishing himself as one of opera’s most promising young tenor voices. His voice has been described as clear, ringing, and incisive. Mr. Zimmerman, was most recently seen as Turridu in Coro Lirico’s production of Cavalleria Rusticana.


He joined Union Avenue Opera in August of 2008 as Don José in Bizet's Carmen. He was described as glorious and engaging in the role. In the last year, Robert has collaborated with The Columbia Symphony in Missouri as the tenor soloist in Verdi's Requiem and Mozart’s Requiem. Mr. Zimmerman debuted with the Amarillo Symphony in April of 2008, where he was met with great success as the tenor soloist in Beethoven's 9th Symphony and in March of 2008 he returned to Augusta Opera in the role of Don José in Peter Brooks’ Tragedie de Carmen.


Mr. Zimmerman enjoyed success in his portrayal of Rodolfo in La Boheme in May of 2007, and had the great pleasure to join The New York Philharmonic in a semi-staged version of My Fair Lady, under the baton of Maestro Rob Fisher of Encore series fame. Mr. Zimmerman has also had the opportunity to perform in a program of Verdi and Puccini with The Vero Beach Opera, and in concert with The Richard Tucker Foundation.

In recent years Robert has been seen in performance with Augusta Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Lyric Opera Cleveland, Lake George Opera, Indianapolis Opera and Opera Northeast. Mr. Zimmerman has also been privileged to perform with the Chautauqua Symphony under the baton of Maestro Joseph Colaneri, The Staten Island Symphony, and The Indianapolis Symphony.


Robert was recently a 2nd place grant recipient from The Gerda Lissner Foundation, and was a semi-finalist in the Competizione dell’ opera in 2007 held in Dresden, Germany. He has also won awards from The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and The Liederkranz Club Vocal Competition.
